How do you use this online abacus?

Move beads, or type a number. The value updates live.

The virtual abacus works just like a physical soroban, so the muscle memory carries straight over to bead practice in class.

Tap a bead to move it

Tap or click a heaven bead (worth 5) or an earth bead (worth 1) to slide it toward the bar. Tap again to send it back. Every move counts toward the live value.

Type a number to display it

Open Controls and type any number into the Set value box, then press Set. The digital abacus arranges its beads to show that number, decimals included.

Reset and practice again

Press Reset to clear the abacus to zero and run the next drill. Mute the bead sound any time. Nothing is saved and nothing needs an account.

It is a 17-rod Japanese soroban: 8 integer rods, 1 unit rod and 8 decimal rods. Each rod has one heaven bead worth 5 and four earth beads worth 1 each, so you can show whole numbers and decimals up to 999,999,999.99999999.
Can I use the online abacus on a phone or tablet?
Yes. The abacus is touch friendly and scrolls sideways on narrow screens, so abacus students can practice bead movements on a phone or tablet. Tap a bead to move it, the same way you would slide a physical bead.
How do I set a number on the abacus?
Tap or click any bead to move it toward the divider bar, or open Controls and type a number into the Set value box, then press Set. Use Reset to clear the abacus back to zero. The current value updates live as you move beads.
